Prestige Gym Melbourne had busy few weeks starting with the National Golden Gloves at the end of August where we took part in the tournament with two of our boxers Sarah and Daniel.
In the tournament’s busiest division, Daniel went through the quarter-finals with the walk-over to narrowly lose by points in the semi-final bout against a local boxer. We thought we did enough, but judges had the last say and we respect their decision.
Sarah performed exceptionally well by initially winning her very first fight back in Melbourne a few days before the Golden Gloves and then went on to win in the semi-finals of the tournament against a very competitive opponent from Queensland. Unfortunately, a busy schedule of 3 fights in one week and the fatigue built up took its toll so Sarah narrowly lost in the finals by one round difference against her opponent from WA to take home a Silver medal and a valuable experience.
Unfortunately, Luke and Elliott both sustained losses in their pro boxing bouts at the Pullman Hotel in Albert Park on September 19.
We knew that the opposition was respectable, and we give them and their teams all credit and congratulations on their well-deserved wins.
We also know that our boys can do much better than that and we will be back stronger and better!
